Frequently Asked Questions
School FAQs
If you don't see your question answered here, please contact us.
What year groups can receive tuition?
We recommend Year 3 and up for most music tuition.
However, younger year groups may be possible, depending on instrument. Please consult your Co-op teacher for advice.
Where can our students get an instrument?
Milton Keynes Music Co-operative does not hire or sell instruments.
If your students need to purchase their own instrument for lessons, please speak to your Co-op teacher for their recommendation.
If they'd prefer to hire an instrument, MK Music Hub provide instrument hire across Milton Keynes.
Can students use instruments provided by the school?
Yes. If your school has a supply of instruments for students to use in lessons, our teachers are happy for them to be used.
It is the school's responsibility to ensure these are of sufficient quality and are well maintained for tuition. Please consult your Co-op teacher for advice.
*Note* It is essential that students have access to instruments at home for regular practise. Please ensure they either have an instrument at home, or there is a hire/loan scheme in place at your school.
How many students can learn in a lesson?
Our teachers are happy to provide both individual and group tuition at your school.
We recommend a maximum group size of 4 to a lesson to ensure steady progression. However, larger groups may be suitable, depending on instrument. Please consult your Co-op teacher for advice.
What day/time are lessons?
All lesson dates and times are agreed between the school and your Co-op teacher.
How many lessons do you teach across the year?
We aim to provide 34 lessons across the academic year.
Schools may, if they wish, purchase additional hours by contacting the Co-operative.
How are lessons paid for?
The school will receive an invoice from the Co-op shortly before the start of each term for lessons.
This will need to be paid within 30 days via bank transfer (details on invoice or contact us) before lessons begin.
If payment is not received, the Co-op reserves the right to withdraw tuition services.
The school must make their own arrangements for payment from parents.
Can I pay by Direct Debit?
Unfortunately, as our lessons are termly, we request all payments are made in advance before term starts this in turn supports our notice period should you wish to cancel.
How do I reduce or cancel tuition hours?
If you wish to reduce tuition hours for your school, or cancel tuition entirely, please inform your teacher and contact us to give your notice.
We require half a term's notice to reduce or cancel tuition. Please see our Schools Terms & Conditions regarding cancellations for more information.
What if I'm not happy with my teacher?
If the issue remains, please contact us. Our Strategy Advisor will discuss the situation and help you resolve your problem.
